Dirk Buschle, attorney-at-law and academic with over 25 years of experience across international organizations, academia, and private practice, Dirk is currently a Partner advising public and private clients on European energy and climate law and policy. In parallel, he serves as a visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Natolin and Bruges, delivering annual courses on European energy and climate policy.


He spent more than 15 years in senior leadership at the Energy Community Secretariat in Vienna as Deputy Director and Head of the Legal Department. In these roles, he was responsible for the implementation and enforcement of European energy and climate law across nine accession countries, overseeing over 50 staff and managing a multi-million-euro budget. He led more than 200 enforcement cases, coordinated legislative drafting and negotiations, and represented the Secretariat in international arbitration and dispute resolution. He also chaired the Energy Community Dispute Resolution and Negotiation Centre, served as Dean of the Summer School, and managed major initiatives, including the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (over EUR 1.8 billion). Earlier in his career, he served as Head of Cabinet at the EFTA Court, where he coordinated judicial processes and drafted judgments in European law, and gained experience in private practice and the German judiciary.


He holds a PhD from the University of St Gallen, an LL.M. from the University of Konstanz, and is qualified as a lawyer in Germany.
